Humber offers new workshops to help with computer skills

Business owners are invited to brush up on their computer skills at the E-biz bootcamp, at Humber College's Lakeshore campus.

Melissa Gullo, director of Student Connections at Humber, said the three workshops provide training and consulting for business owners and managers who want to become more internet-savvy.

The three workshops cost $150 and will run every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting Aug. 13.

Gullo said the workshops will be run by students with backgrounds in e-business and marketing, who will talk planning, selling online, and marketing and will help business owners evaluate their own websites.

Although the workshops haven't been run for a number of years, Gullo said consultants at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo have helped to update the lesson plan.

Erin Marton, a recent graduate of the marketing program at Humber College, is one of the students who will be doing the teaching.

"Members of the older generations don't have the background in computers," she said. "The younger generation have more skills because we've been around it longer."

Marton said she's trained people before but this will be her first 'bootcamp'.

"There are no quick fixes in business," she said. "But people like us who offer solutions are the closest thing to that."
