Letter writer shocked by Order of Canada award

I am shocked by the Order of Canada award to abortionist Dr. Henry Morgentaler. I am profoundly shocked by the governor general's conduct and I am profoundly shocked by Liberal leader Stephane Dion's endorsement of the award.

Did the governor general consult the Archbishop of Canterbury on this matter?

I can't believe that we as Canadians will uphold a value that eliminates the sanctity of life as a fundamental part and a cornerstone of our charter of basic fundamental human values. I think we have lost our moral fabric and converted life into a culture of materialistic plastic, neon, hedonism and selfishness.

Recently, a local fraternity at University of Toronto in the Annex was busted for drugs, including date rape drugs, which were allegedly meant for trafficking. Are those our emerging modern moral values that we are adopting?

What if the governor general should appoint Morgentaler to go and work in Haiti, Africa and elsewhere? There we send aid to develop and save children, here we prescribe death to the life of unborn.

Four of my uncles participated in the Second World War, one in Europe, two in Africa and one on the Burmese front. It seems to me that the Nazi tyranny did not end there. It has returned in a subtle and a profound way. Were their personal sacrifices in vain?

Liberalism has gone too far into the realm of the devil. I am so sorry to see that happen. I can't believe it.

I am glad that the Conservatives have not endorsed the award as they have shown some respect for life. They have shown respect for laws of God, by clearly distinguishing them from laws of man.

I can't believe that it is happening in Canada.

I pray to God that Liberals return to their senses.
