Toronto's best high school track and field stars brought back a load of medals from the Ontario Federation of School Athletics Association (OFSAA) provincial championships which wrapped up in Hamilton on the weekend.
There were two individual double gold medal winners from Toronto, both in junior boys and both from Scarborough's Birchmount Park Collegiate.
- Aaron Brown won both the 100m and 200m events, proving he's the fastest high school athlete in the province at the junior boys level.
- Merid Seleshi was unbeatable at the middle distances, winning the 800m and 1500m events.
Birchmount Park's two men's relay teams proved fastest in the province with both 4x100m and 4x400m teams winning gold.
Janelle Redhead of North York's Westview Centennial ran for the cycle in senior girls with gold in 200m, silver in 100m and bronze in 400m.
There were three athletes with gold-silver combos:
- Tamara Jewett of St. Clement (North Toronto) earned gold in 3000m and silver in 1500m in senior girls;
- Thomas Juha of Michael Power/St. Joseph (Etobicoke) earned gold in 200m and silver in 100m in midget boys;
- Richard West of Francis Libermann (Scarborough) earned gold in 800m and silver in 400m in senior boys.
Other gold medals were earned by:
- Shannon Kennedy of Martingrove Collegiate (Etobicoke) in junior girls 800m;
- Megan Beverley of Leaside High School (East York) in junior girls 1500m;
- the Mary Ward senior girls 4x100m relay team;
- Jaideene Lowe of Runnymede Collegiate (Toronto) in senior girls triple jump;
- Kadeem Henry from Chaminade (North York) in midget boys 300m hurdles;
- Mike Vasile of St. Basil (Weston) in midget boys high jump;
- Ian Warner of Birchmoount Park (Scarborough) in senior boys 100m;
- Andre Hamilton of Birchmount Park (Scarborough) in senior boys 400m;
- and Brian Richards of West Humber (Etobicoke) in senior boys long jump.
Also of note, there was one triple silver medalist.
Sheereen Harris of Mary Ward CSS in Scarborough finished runner up in three midget girls events - 100m, 200m and 80m hurdles.
