Looking for a way to better manage your diabetes?

How about a new daycare for your child?

Or perhaps a seniors home for your aging parent?

How convenient would it be if you could get the answers to those and dozens of other questions from the comfort of your own home?

Now, thanks to a new online database of health and social agencies, you can do just that.

The Community Care Resources website, www.toronto.communitycareresources.ca, contains listings of thousands of local health and support resources such as Meals on Wheels, transportation, housing, dementia services, adult day programs, pharmacies, grocery stores that deliver and hairdressers that will come to your home.

Users can tailor the responses they receive through the database, such as listings in their language, services within a certain distance from their home, agencies that are wheelchair accessible, fees and eligibility for service.

An operator is ready to assist at 416-506-9888 or toll free at 1-866-243-0061.

Meanwhile, service providers can register and update their own records online.

The website is funded by the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, a provincially appointed body that oversees health planning for a section of Toronto that includes York, part of North York, East York and Beach, and the Toronto Central Community Care Access Centre in conjunction with hundreds of community care providers.

"In our consultations with the public, we heard repeatedly that many people didn't know where to look for services or how to navigate the local health-care system," the LHIN's acting chief executive officer Bill Manson said in a statement.

"(The website) helps people find their way through the complex health system quicker and faster and delivers on the Toronto Central LHIN's commitment to create an inventory of seniors, rehabilitation and mental health and addictions services."
