This in response to the recent developments at the city hall and in support of the letter by A. DiFebo, to impeach Mayor David Miller.
Ever since Miller came to power, I am shocked at the careless way he, along with his cronies, run this city and get away with it. Is this the way an educated democracy runs? I am an immigrant and have lived in several countries prior to landing in Canada six years ago. I came to Canada thinking how liberated, free and educated this country is, but I feel ashamed to say that politics is no different here than in other Third World countries.
Politicians run their offices the way they want, feeding their cronies and their own pockets. And now they want to rise the taxes, to fill their pockets more? We are already over taxed in many ways. Can't they do anything with the existing taxes the city already earns?
City hall is not even providing the basic standards a city such as Toronto should be providing.
For example, let's compare Chicago to Toronto.
Both are like sized and populated, yet the difference in standard and management is incomparable. We all know that the Canadian dollar has more powerful than ever before. What has the government done to bring down the price of the regular commodities?
Instead they are always supporting the giant companies, and talking about squeezing out more dollars out of the ordinary citizen - you and me.
Ottawa doesn't want to support Toronto, the city that supports close to a third of the immigrants.
Miller, along with Premier Dalton McGuinty, should try to pressure Ottawa to rise Toronto to the same standards as other international cities such as Chicago and New York City. Toronto has never been so unclean and downtrodden and neglected.
We need strong leaders with great vision, not weak and selfish people who sit in city hall for their own good.
I hate using the TTC: the system is so dirty and mismanaged. The roads are full of potholes. The roads in developing countries are far better. The public education system is in the dumps as of now.
Good people of Toronto, wake up, it is time for us to unite and do something about this city that is ours. We need to find leaders with vision.
