Woman injured in hit-and-run crash remains in serious condition
Police said the woman was pushing a baby stroller across Kingston Road at Orchard Park Drive when a Dodge Caravan struck her at 9:21 p.m. The stroller contained groceries.
"The driver got out, stayed there for a minute and then decided to jump in his van and took off," said Sgt. Tim Burrows, adding that a citizen followed the vehicle and "kept our dispatchers up to date" on where it was going.
Officers from 43 Division found the vehicle in the Old Finch and Morningside avenues area and arrested a 17-year-old boy for impaired driving and failing to stop at an accident.
The victim, crossing from the north side of Kingston Road, was struck while in a westbound lane.
Burrows, of the traffic services unit, said the pedestrian is expected to survive.
The suspect can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
