The East York-Leaside-Rivedale Mirror was honoured with a Canadian Community Newspaper Association Award for best sports photography last week.

A photo taken by Jill Kitchener of a rundown in an East York Baseball Association game last summer was named Best Sports Photo in the 12,500 and above circulation class.

The awards were presented Friday, May 9, at the CCNA's Better Newspapers Convention at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto.

Judge Carla Victor said Kitchener's photo was the "clear winner", giving it a perfect score of 40.

"Seeing the boys' faces, especially the boy doing the chasing, reminds people of a moment in their lives when they wanted something really, really badly," Victor said in her comments. "'Look at that kid's face' commented everyone who I showed the photo to."
